ABOUT US
Our tale begins on a cold, cold night......
From humble beginnings in a portacabin in the St
Giles car park in November 1995, with only one scooter and a few borrowed manual chairs, Shopmobility Moray was created. Elgin could now offer shoppers with mobility problems an easier method
of visiting the city centre. During the last decade, Shopmobility has grown from strength to strength. Since then
we have moved to our present premises in 2001 (located beside
the Press and Journal on Elgin High Street). We now have an extensive selection of scooters, powered chairs and
manual chairs, including one with a power pack and one child's
chair. Walking sticks, frames and walking trolleys are also
available.
We are partly funded by the Moray Council. This is a free service for
those with limited mobility, sight or hearing impairments and is run by a
Management Committee of volunteers. The day to day running is managed by a full
time coordinator and team of volunteers. Escorts are available if
required, to accompany, push a wheelchair, or to lend an arm (you don't
have to need a wheelchair). But that is not all!
As we conitnue to grow we are always looking to raise funds to ensure this invaluable service remains available. We have sponsored walks and stalls at all major local events, allowing the community to contribute to this service, whether it's with a well received donation or an offer to volunteer.
